Château Ferrand-Segur is in an excellent location next to Montrose and Calon-Segur, and in 2003 was upgraded to the prestigious Cru Bourgeois Exceptional class, which was only given to nine châteaux at the time, and in the past was the highest rank among non-rated châteaux, In the past, it belonged to the highest rank of non-classified chateaus. Even before the upgrade, the quality of the chateau skyrocketed from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, and it earned a reputation for being as long-lived as any wine in Saint-Estèphe.

The opulent Ferrin-Segur chateau is located slightly south of the village of Saint-Estèphe, on a hill overlooking the Gironde River. The 70 hectares of hilltop vineyards are covered with clay gravelly and earthy limestone soils.
