In 1821, Hugh Barton acquired Château Langoa, an elegant mansion built in 1758. Its architecture, its harmonious proportions and its 20 hectares of vines planted in the Saint Julien appellation, seduced Hugh who renamed it "Château Langoa Barton". During the 1855 classification, Hugh Barton, passionate and in love with his wine, was rewarded by the accession of the property to the rank of "3rd Cru Classé".
