If the first vines are planted by the priors during the 13th century, it is at the "Cloux of the Five Newspapers" and then at the "Cros des Cloux" that we must then refer to when we talk about the plot.

In 1651, for the first time, the word "Romanée" was attached to the name of the plot and half a century later, in 1794, confiscated by the revolutionaries, the plot was sold to the highest bidder and renamed "Romanée Conty" for having belonged, admittedly briefly, to Prince Louis-François de Bourbon-Conti.
